Tall Ship Down: Mexican Navy Vessel Collides with Brooklyn Bridge

⛵️ New York, NY – May 18 – The Mexican Navy's tall ship Cuauhtémoc was involved in a dramatic collision with the iconic Brooklyn Bridge earlier today during its global goodwill tour.
The vessel, carrying 277 crew members, reportedly experienced a loss of power while navigating the East River. The Cuauhtémoc began drifting against the strong current and, unable to regain control, struck the underside of the bridge. The impact resulted in all three of the ship's towering masts snapping and collapsing.
Eyewitnesses reported a deafening impact, followed by shouting and chaos on deck. Several sailors were reportedly in the rigging at the time of the collision. While the incident caused visible damage to the ship, authorities have confirmed that no serious injuries were sustained.
The Cuauhtémoc was en route to Iceland as part of its mission to promote international naval diplomacy. The collision has brought an abrupt halt to its journey.
An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the mechanical failure that led to the loss of power. Authorities will also be reviewing protocols for navigating large vessels through New York's fast-moving and congested waterways. The incident raises concerns about the safety of maritime traffic in the area.
