The new LNG ships will add to Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s fleet renewal programme. The company’s existing Shaper-class programme at China Merchants Jinling includes 14 vessels, with different ships using LNG or methanol dual-fuel technology. The LNG-powered vessels are also prepared for ammonia. Wallenius Wilhelmsen operates nearly 130 vessels across 15 trade routes. Splash 247 reported.

The company issued 17.145m shares at NOK 168 each in a private placement completed on Tuesday. Wallenius Wilhelmsen is now in advanced talks with shipyards for four LNG dual-fuel vessels, with delivery planned for 2030. It is also discussing options for eight more ships, with deliveries expected from 2031.

No shipyard, vessel size or contract price has been announced yet, and the shipbuilding deals are not signed. If all eight options are taken, Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s newbuilding programme will include 26 ships, with deliveries from Q3 2026 to 2032.

The LNG-fuelled ships will add to the company’s existing fleet renewal plan. Wallenius Wilhelmsen already has 14 Shaper-class car carriers under construction at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, including eight vessels of 11,700 CEU. These ships will use methanol dual-fuel technology and be ready for ammonia. The company currently operates nearly 130 vessels on 15 trade routes.
