COSCO expands heavylift fleet with eight new vessels for offshore wind transport

COSCO Shipping Specialised Carriers has announced an order for eight new 60,000 dwt multipurpose heavylift vessels to support the growing demand for offshore wind and project cargo transportation. The ships will be built at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard under a programme worth up to $387.8 million, with deliveries scheduled between April 2029 and June 2030, according to The Maritime Telegraph .

The new vessels will carry wind turbine components, offshore energy equipment and other project cargo. COSCO says the investment will strengthen its position in the specialised shipping sector as demand continues to grow with renewable energy projects and exports of heavy industrial equipment.

The order follows a long-term agreement signed in 2025 for six 60,000 dwt heavylift vessels. The ships are also being built at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard and are financed by Bank of Communications Financial Leasing under a 16-year bareboat charter.
