Seafarer killed aboard tanker awaiting scrapping in Bangladesh

A Thai seafarer died after a violent dispute aboard a tanker waiting offshore near Chattogram, Bangladesh, before heading to a ship recycling yard, according to The Maritime Telegraph. The incident involved the Thai-flagged tanker K.P.P. 01, which had arrived from Phuket on its final voyage for scrapping.
The fatal stabbing happened on May 19 while the vessel was anchored off Chattogram. Local officials and the ship’s agent said two crew members got into a fight onboard. During the confrontation, a 30-year-old oiler suffered several stab wounds.
Crew members rushed the injured sailor ashore, where medical staff and agency representatives were already waiting with an ambulance. Doctors later pronounced him dead at a hospital in Chattogram.
After the incident, Bangladesh police boarded the tanker along with local agency officials and detained a Thai able seaman. Authorities said the suspect later gave a confessional statement and now remains in judicial custody while investigators continue the case.
