Singapore-based liner operator Ocean Network Express (ONE) has signed a deal with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for six LNG dual-fuel containerships valued at approximately $1.22 billion, The Maritime Telegraph reports.

The newbuildings will each offer a capacity of 15,900 TEU and are scheduled for delivery between late 2028 and 2029. Shipbuilding market sources estimate the price per vessel at around $203.5 million.

The order forms part of ONE’s broader strategy to modernise its fleet with lower-emission vessels capable of operating on alternative fuels. The company has continued expanding its LNG and methanol-capable fleet as environmental regulations become stricter across global shipping.

The latest series will complement several alternative-fuel projects already underway at Asian shipyards, including methanol-fuelled containerships under construction at Jiangnan Shipyard and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. Industry insiders previously linked ONE to a much larger order involving up to 22 dual-fuel vessels, although the final contract was smaller than initially expected.

Formed through the merger of the container divisions of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, NYK Line and K Line, ONE currently operates around 280 vessels with a combined capacity exceeding 2 million TEU, ranking sixth globally according to Alphaliner data.
